Frequently asked questions

What's free, and what does the unlock include?

Everything you need to create and stitch is free: photo conversion, the editor with every stitch type, progress tracking, the built-in patterns in the Patterns tab, up to 3 saved projects and up to 3 tracked patterns. The unlock adds every export format — PDF, OXS, PNG, the .sduck project file (plus SVG on Mac) and progress files — unlimited saved projects and tracked patterns, applying Declutter, and Symmetry drawing in 7 modes. Unlock with a yearly subscription, which starts with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, or with a one-time purchase; both include exactly the same features. If a subscription ends, only those features lock again — your projects are never deleted.

Can I sell the patterns I make?

Yes. What you design in StitchDuck is yours: we claim no rights to your patterns and take no share of your sales. You can sell the pieces you stitch and the patterns themselves — as PDFs, in your own shop, on Etsy. Commercial use is included in the unlock; there is no separate commercial license. Just make sure you have the right to use any photo or artwork you convert. The built-in patterns in the Patterns tab are the exception: they’re for personal use only, so please don’t sell them, edited copies of them, or pieces stitched from them.

How does progress tracking work?

Open the Progress tab at the bottom of the home screen. Tap “Import Project” to add one of your projects, or “Import File” to open an OXS, Pattern Maker (.xsd) or PCStitch (.pat) chart directly. To stitch a built-in pattern, open it in the Patterns tab and tap “Track Progress”. Then tap stitches as you finish them — tap again to unmark. Backstitches, French knots and beads can be marked too. Progress is shown per color and stitch type, and parking marks show where your threads are parked. Tracking is free for up to 3 patterns; with the unlock you can track more and export a progress file (.sdprog) to pick up where you left off on another device.

Does my purchase work on all my devices?

Yes, within the same store. The unlock — subscription or one-time purchase — is shared across iPhone, iPad and Mac as long as you're signed in with the same Apple Account, and across Android devices signed in to the same Google Account. On a new device, open the unlock screen in the app and tap “Restore purchases”. A purchase made through the App Store doesn’t carry over to Android, or the other way round.

How do I cancel the subscription?

Subscriptions are billed and managed by the store you subscribed through — Apple or Google Play. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions; on Mac, open the App Store, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then go to Subscriptions; on Android, tap “Manage subscription” on the app’s unlock screen, or open Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period — or the 7-day free trial — ends to avoid being charged for the next one. When the subscription ends, only exporting, saving or tracking more, applying Declutter and using Symmetry lock again; your projects stay on your device.

Which file formats can I import and export?

Import: OXS, Pattern Maker (.xsd), PCStitch (.pat), StitchDuck project files (.sduck) and progress files (.sdprog). Export: PDF, OXS, PNG, .sduck (SVG on Mac) and progress files.

Does StitchDuck need an internet connection or an account?

No. StitchDuck works fully offline and has no accounts. The only online step is the optional unlock — buying, renewing or restoring it — which is handled by the App Store or Google Play.

Where are my projects stored? How do I back them up?

Projects and stitching progress live on your device. On iPhone, iPad and Mac they are included in your normal device backups (iCloud or computer backups); on Android they are not backed up to the cloud and are deleted when you uninstall the app, so export the projects you want to keep as .sduck files and store them somewhere safe. To move or archive a single project, export it as a .sduck project file and import it on the other device — everything stays fully editable. To move a pattern’s progress, export a progress file from the Progress tab and open it with “Import File” on the other device.

How do I report a bug?

Email us at stitchduckapp@icloud.com with your device model, system version, and what you were doing when the problem happened. If the issue is visual, a screenshot or screen recording is the single most helpful thing you can attach.
